As a Police Surgeon and Dundee’s Medical Officer, Dr Charles Templeman saw first-hand the battles Dundonians faced in the 1800s both on the streets and with the many diseases ravaging the city.

From attending murders, injuries and accidents, to establishing Dundee’s TB Hospital, Dr Templeman was committed to improving the health of the city. Join us at Verdant Works for this talk on the life and times of Dr Templeman, as well as some of the most sensational cases he worked on and the legacy he left in Dundee.

This indoor talk takes place on the weekend of 16th and 17th March, at Verdant Works. Your ticket includes entry to the talk which will last for approximately 45 minutes, as well as entry into Verdant Works to explore the history of jute and the social history and living conditions of the jute workers. Make sure to visit the ‘Tackling TB’ exhibition while you’re there!

Our talk includes all the grisly details of Dr Templeman’s work on tackling TB in the early 1900s as well as his time as the Police Surgeon for Dundee in the late 1800s where he dealt with all sorts of crime and criminals, including several murder cases.

You can visit Verdant Works at any time on the day of your talk booking, either before or after the talk – Verdant Works is open Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm. On arrival please check-in at Verdant Works front desk, in the cafe in the courtyard upon arrival. please arrive at least 15 minutes before the talk is due to begin. The talk will take place in the Red Box which is next to the ‘Tackling TB’ exhibition in the High Mill, Verdant Works staff will be able to direct you.
